Swiss startup Helix Robotics, now known as Embodied AI, has secured CHF 150,000 in funding from Venture Kick, which is equivalent to approximately USD 168,000. The investment will accelerate the development of the first commercial soft robot , an innovation designed to improve safety and precision in laboratory automation and food handling.

Traditional robotic arms are highly accurate, but their safety is a challenge when interacting with humans. Soft robotics offers a safer solution, although it has so far lacked the stability and reliability needed for demanding industrial applications. Embodied AI seeks to change this paradigm with a platform that combines flexibility, safety, and industrial-grade precision.

The soft robot project has scientific support

The project originated at EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), where founders Francesco Stella, Professor Josie Hughes and Professor Cosimo Della Santina developed a patented technology. This innovation allows independent control of the manipulator’s stiffness, optimising its performance in advanced automation environments.

The company aims to bring this technology to TRL 5 level, which represents a major step forward on its path to commercialization. Its goal is to transform the industry with collaborative robotics solutions, facilitating safe interaction between humans and machines .

The robotic arms sector has seen significant growth, with the market value estimated at $7.7 billion in 2022 and projected to reach over $13 billion by 2030. Factors such as labor shortages and the need for automation in key sectors are driving this trend. Embodied AI plans to capitalize on this growth with its innovative proposition.

Use of investment

With the CHF 150,000 raised, Embodied AI will strengthen its business development team and execute a marketing strategy to consolidate its presence in the sector. In addition, Venture Kick ‘s backing has provided funding and access to strategic mentoring to define its expansion plan.

Venture Kick provided us with an incredible platform for growth, not only because of the financial support but also because of the intensive training sessions. It pushed us to build a solid business case and define clear go-to-market strategies.

Commented Francesco Stella, founder of the company.

With a combination of innovative technology, financial backing and a booming market, Embodied AI is on track to position itself as a benchmark in the field of industrial automation and flexible robotics.
