CMA CGM has placed its first order for Wärtsilä 34DF engines equipped with the innovative EnviroPac feature. This technology is designed to reduce methane emissions while maintaining the engines’ high efficiency.

EnviroPac technology addresses the challenge of unburned methane, a major problem in the use of liquefied natural gas ( LNG ) as a transition fuel. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50%, this solution helps meet the most stringent environmental regulations, such as those set by the IMO at its level 3.

In addition to the environmental benefits, this emission reduction promises to lower operating costs in EU waters, through its alignment with the Emissions Trading System and FuelEU Maritime . In addition, the engines will be installed on eight new CMA CGM LNG container ships, currently under construction at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding yard.

Wärtsilä Marine strengthens its commitment to global decarbonisation with this innovation. Xavier Leclercq, Vice President New Construction at CMA CGM, said: ” This is a very important development that will have a major beneficial impact on our operations. We are working hard to minimise the environmental footprint across our fleet, and this latest technology from Wärtsilä provides strong support for these efforts. “.
