Kodal Minerals has achieved significant progress at its flagship lithium project in southern Mali. The power generation plant at the Bougouni Project is now operational , a crucial step that paves the way for the full commissioning of the Dense Media Separation (DMS) processing plant in the coming weeks.

The importance of the power generation plant

This power plant is critical for testing and activation of the electrical, drive and instrumentation systems within the DMS processing plant.

The DMS plant, which is currently under construction, is designed to process spodumene, the lithium mineral that will feed the resource’s production. With the power plant already operational, the commissioning of the DMS plant is expected to be completed in time to start commercial production of spodumene in the first quarter of 2025. This is part of Kodal’s plans to position itself as one of the first lithium producers in West Africa.

The installation of the generators, which arrived on site in December 2024, has been successfully completed, allowing operational testing to begin. In addition, the company has mined over 240,000 tonnes of lithium ore , ensuring a steady supply for the start-up process. An additional quantity of low-grade ore has also been set aside to be used during the early stages of the process to verify the performance of the systems.

With current progress, the Bougouni Project is moving forward with its goal of being one of the first lithium mines to produce spodumene in West Africa. Through strong financing, including significant investment from Hainan Group, Kodal Minerals continues to expand its capabilities and optimize its infrastructure to ensure stable long-term performance.
