On January 11, 2025, the joint venture of EPC contractors Samsung C&T and LILAMA Corporation celebrated the first successful start-up of the Nhon Trach 3 power plant, located in Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai Province.
Progress towards commercial operation
The initial power-up of the plant confirms the completion of the construction and installation works, and has allowed crucial tests to be carried out, such as the interconnection of equipment and the verification of main systems. Furthermore, this success is a solid foundation for the next objective : gas flaring, synchronisation of the plant and its delivery for commercial operation in June 2025.
Following the successful first power-up, the EPC contractor joint venture is expected to move toward new milestones, including plant synchronization and system cleanup, scheduled for late January and February 2025 , respectively.
To date, the project has reached 98% progress on the EPC packages , with several key systems already in operation. These include the 220kV Power Distribution Station, which provides reverse power to the plant, and systems such as the main and auxiliary transformers, water treatment , compressed air, water circulation cooling system and gas fuel reception. The plant is ready to receive gas from Photovoltaic Gas, a significant step towards sustainability.
The future of the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 project
The success of this phase has been made possible thanks to the close collaboration between the LILAMA board of directors, the EPC contractor and the project owner. Especially, the efforts of LILAMA engineers and workers, who have been working tirelessly on site, have been essential to meet deadlines and ensure quality at every stage of construction.
The Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plant project, with a total capacity of 1,500 MW, represents one of the largest investments in energy infrastructure in Vietnam. This power plant is key to the country’s energy sector as it is being developed in Phuoc Khanh commune, Nhon Trach district.
The plant will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) to generate electricity, marking an important step towards diversifying Vietnam’s energy mix and strengthening its sustainable energy infrastructure.
