With this support, the port will modernize the electrical infrastructure of its Tenth Avenue Maritime Terminal. This includes fast-charging systems for high-capacity forklifts and electric trucks, a clear commitment to reducing emissions and improving air quality in disadvantaged communities.
Board of Port Commissioners Chair Danielle Moore highlighted that the port has achieved 66% of the goals set in its environmental strategy, investing more than $125 million in related projects. ” With grants like this one from the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District, we are leading the charge for all California ports to demonstrate that we can be community and environmental advocates while supporting and driving our economy with efficient maritime operations ,” she said.
Furthermore, this project benefits from a $6 million contribution from the EPA ‘s Clean Ports Program , awarded in 2024. The collaboration seeks to improve the port into a benchmark for environmental justice, promoting public health and a sustainability model that can be replicated in other regions.
