Low temperatures are no challenge for the Nissan Ariya . At the North American Technical Center near Detroit, the manufacturer has conducted rigorous testing to ensure that this electric SUV performs flawlessly, even in extreme cold conditions. The test chambers, capable of reaching temperatures of up to -40 degrees Fahrenheit, are the stage where the capabilities of this innovative vehicle are validated.
Extreme testing for exceptional performance
The company’s engineering team, led by Jeff Tessmer, senior manager of zero-emission vehicles , conducts extensive testing to simulate the worst-case scenario. One of the most significant tests is a “cold soak,” in which the Ariya is left with just 17% charge for 24 hours in temperatures of -4°F. Despite the cold temperatures, the vehicle maintained its charge and started without issue the next day , demonstrating the resilience of its battery and systems.
The Ariya is equipped with an advanced thermal management system that allows it to remain operational in both extreme cold and heat conditions. In winter, a battery heater ensures power is kept at an optimal temperature for peak performance. Through the MyNISSAN app , drivers can even activate this heating system before getting behind the wheel , ensuring the car is ready to go without compromising battery power.
Nissan Ariya: Comfortable and efficient driving in any climate
One of the Ariya ’s most notable advantages over internal combustion vehicles is its ability to warm up the cabin much faster. It doesn’t rely on an engine to generate heat, allowing drivers to enjoy a comfortable ride from the first minute. Plus, with e-4ORCE all-wheel drive , the Ariya is perfectly suited to cold climates , offering a safe and stable driving experience.
Nissan continues to reaffirm its commitment to technological innovation by ensuring its electric vehicles are efficient and robust in the face of climatic challenges. The Nissan brand continues to lead the way in durability testing for its electric vehicles, ensuring that each unit can withstand the toughest conditions without sacrificing performance.
