TotalEnergies and its partners Basra Oil Company and QatarEnergy have begun construction of the ArtawiGas25 project . This gas processing facility, located at the Ratawi field in Basra, will process 50 million cubic feet of pre-flared gas daily, representing an investment of $250 million.
ArtawiGas25 project for gas processing
ArtawiGas25 is part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), a $10 billion multi-energy initiative that seeks to transform Iraq’s energy landscape. In its first phase, the GGIP will recover flared gas from three oil fields in the south of the country, supplying 1.5 GW of electrical capacity .
The impact of ArtawiGas25 will be tangible: power for around 200,000 homes and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the modular design of the facility could be replicated at other sites in Iraq, setting a precedent in the efficient reuse of resources.
TotalEnergies , known for its advances in renewable energy, is highlighting its focus on fast and effective solutions to reduce gas flaring with this project. According to Julien Pouget, Vice President of Exploration and Production for the Middle East and North Africa, this project will provide the people of Iraq with a direct benefit from the GGIP while meeting electricity needs with fewer emissions.
