Waaree Energies, India’s largest PV module manufacturer, has taken a key step in its renewable energy strategy by commencing trial production at its 5.4 GW solar cell plant located in Chikhli, Gujarat. This facility promises to be the largest of its kind in the country, marking a significant advancement in the Indian solar industry.

With this plant, Waaree aims to strengthen indigenous manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports. Dr. Amit Paithankar, Managing Director of Waaree, says that this achievement underlines the company’s commitment to energy sustainability . The 5.4 GW plant not only complements the company’s 13.3 GW of solar module capacity, but also reinforces the company’s position as a leader in photovoltaic technology. The facility will also support government initiatives that favor local products.
Boosting the renewable market
Waaree also announced a supply agreement for 150 MW of TOPCon type – n modules , with a power output of up to 590 Wp, to a leading customer in the renewable energy sector. This project adds to other recent agreements that highlight the growing demand for advanced solar technologies in India.
