Through a collaboration between Wing , DoorDash and Brookfield Properties , residents in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area will be able to enjoy drone deliveries from nearby shopping malls. The service will launch at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and Hulen Mall in Fort Worth .
How does drone delivery work?
DoorDash customers will be able to order from more than 50 local merchants and choose the “ drone delivery ” option during checkout. Once this option is selected, the order will be prepared and delivered by one of Wing’s drones , which operate at speeds of up to 65 mph and can hover at a height of 150 feet. Such an ultra-fast delivery system has the potential to reduce wait times from hours to just 15 minutes.
Wing drones, which have been operating in the United States for the past five years, have already completed more than 400,000 deliveries worldwide, consolidating the reliability and efficiency of this aerial distribution system.
Brookfield Properties is the strategic partner that will facilitate the implementation of this innovative service. Through this alliance, Brookfield’s shopping centers in Dallas-Fort Worth will be able to take advantage of underused spaces, such as rooftops and spare parking lots, to operate drones and make fast deliveries directly to customers’ homes.
Brookfield Properties Senior Vice President of Business Development Katie Kurtz commented: “We are proud to be the first landlord to offer drone deliveries as another avenue to help our tenants serve our communities. We are committed to meeting the changing needs of consumers and staying at the forefront of retail. “.
This expansion builds on Wing’s experience in previous pilot programs in Melbourne, Australia and Christiansburg, Virginia, and seeks to enhance the shopping experience for consumers in major cities across the United States.
