The first unit of Henan Wuyue Power Station, a pumped storage power project of China National Nuclear Corporation ( CNNC ), was successfully put into operation at 10:30 on December 12. This event is important for the energy development of the Dabie Mountains region.

The start of the power plant unit is part of a larger project approved by China’s State Council under the ” Plan for the revitalization and development of the former revolutionary areas of the Dabie Mountains .”
With a total installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts, the plant will generate 857 million kilowatt-hours per year. It will also contribute to the development of a more sustainable energy system, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 291,400 tons per year.
CNNC said the project faced complex geological challenges, but was designed and executed to the highest safety standards. Moreover, it has implemented rigorous supervision in risk management, including digital intelligence and other intelligent management systems.
Henan Wuyue Power Station is notable for its power generation capabilities and its integration with local needs. With an investment of over 45 million yuan, it has promoted the improvement of local infrastructures such as rural roads, electrical communications, and school conditions.
CNNC has demonstrated a strong commitment to green development by integrating the project with environmental protection and the revitalization of rural communities. In addition to the production of clean energy, the plant fosters local employment and improves living conditions in rural areas of the region. The implementation of these measures is part of CNNC’s long-term strategy to support the achievement of the ” double carbon ” objectives, contributing to the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
With the first unit operational, Henan Wuyue Pumped Storage Power Plant will continue to commission subsequent units, while ensuring the quality and safety of operation. This project will serve to stabilize the energy supply of the Henan region, and support the development of a more efficient and sustainable electricity system at the national level.
