BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle giant, has just launched its second ro-ro ship dedicated to transporting electric cars: The BYD Changzhou . This new carrier, with capacity for 5,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs), is bound for Europe.
A new step for BYD in global logistics
The BYD Changzhou, with an impressive length of 199.9 metres and capacity to carry up to 7,000 vehicles , is the latest addition to BYD’s fleet of car carriers. The ship, built by CIMC Raffles, set sail from the ports of Lianyungang and Taicang in Jiangsu province, loaded with nearly 5,000 electric vehicles that will be distributed in Europe.
BYD Corporate Division General Manager Wang Junbao shared via Weibo that this new transporter will contribute to reducing global emissions, helping to cool the planet by 1°C , as part of the company’s commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change .
BYD’s fleet expansion and future
This vessel is the second ro-ro ship in BYD’s fleet, following the EXPLORER NO.1 , the company’s first ship dedicated to transporting electric vehicles, and the BYD Hefei, which is also dedicated to this task. With these advances, BYD strengthens its logistics capacity and continues to grow in the export of electric vehicles, with plans to operate another seven ships over the next two years.
This expansion is part of an ongoing effort to increase exports of new energy vehicles from China. In November, the company achieved a significant breakthrough by selling 506,804 NEVs , with a notable growth in its international sales. This increase in transport capacity will help meet the growing demand for electric cars in Europe and other international markets.
By adding more vehicle transporters and expanding its international presence, BYD continues to establish itself as a global leader in the electric vehicle industry . In addition to its influence in the Chinese market, the company is playing a key role in the transition to a more sustainable future globally, by transporting thousands of electric vehicles every month.
