EDP Renewables has taken a major step in its expansion in Germany with the start of construction of its first large-scale photovoltaic project in the country . The Ketzin solar plant , located in the state of Brandenburg, just a few kilometres from Berlin, will have an installed capacity of 87 MWp and will begin operating in the second half of 2025.
This project, one of EDP’s key initiatives to strengthen its presence in Germany, will generate enough energy to supply more than 28,000 homes , avoiding the emission of some 75,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
Ketzin solar power plant: A commitment to renewable energy in Germany
With the start of construction of the Ketzin solar plant, EDP is reinforcing its commitment to the energy transition in Germany, a strategic market for the company. This is just the first step in an ambitious plan that includes the installation of more than 5 GWp of solar capacity in different development phases in the country.
According to Duarte Bello, CEO of EDP in Europe, solar energy will be a key pillar in the company’s strategy in Germany, where they plan to continue investing in clean and renewable energy.
The Ketzin project represents a significant investment in solar energy and also an integral part of EDP’s long-term strategy in Germany. With plans to expand renewable capacity in the country, EDP projects more than 400 MWp of solar capacity over the next two years and plans to include wind energy and energy storage systems (BESS) in its portfolio by 2030. This diversification will significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions and boosting the energy transition in the country.
