In a decisive step towards decarbonisation, Amazon has announced the construction of three large-scale wind farms in Greece . This project, which represents the company’s largest renewable energy investment in the country, seeks to contribute to both its sustainability goals and Greece’s National Energy and Climate Plan. The farms are estimated to generate enough energy to power nearly 200,000 Greek homes per year.

The initiative includes the Vermio, Mesokorfi and Koukouras wind farms, spread across Macedonia and the Peloponnese. These projects, which will be operational in 2026 , will mark a significant step towards the energy transition of the Hellenic country. Greece, currently 48% dependent on fossil fuels , will see a positive impact on its energy network by incorporating renewable sources.

In addition to supporting Amazon’s goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, the construction of the parks has generated more than 100 jobs in the initial phase and is expected to reach 300 at its peak. Also, as part of their commitment to the community, Amazon and Aer Soléir have allocated funds to reforestation and local development projects.

A strategic investment

With an investment of over $1 billion , this collaboration reinforces Greece’s role as a regional leader in renewable energy. This joint effort seeks to transform the country’s energy matrix and boost its economy through technological and environmental initiatives.

Globally, Amazon has made progress toward its goal of using 100% renewable energy. This project in Greece is part of a portfolio of more than 500 clean energy initiatives. Amazon’s renewable investments are estimated to have generated thousands of jobs and made significant contributions to the GDP of the regions involved.
