Uniper to boost Green Wilhelmshaven project with 200 MW electrolysis plant

Uniper has selected Electric Hydrogen as the exclusive design partner for a 200 MW electrolyser plant at its Green Wilhelmshaven project in northern Germany. The company started pre -FEED design work in October 2024, paving the way for one of Europe’s largest electrolysis facilities.

The Green Wilhelmshaven project

The project consists of a large-scale electrolysis plant , which will generate green hydrogen using energy from renewable sources, and an ammonia import terminal. Both facilities will be connected to Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure, including backbone networks and underground storage, consolidating Wilhelmshaven’s position as a strategic hub for hydrogen production.

The electrolysis will use Electric Hydrogen’s advanced proton exchange membrane ( PEM ) technology, selected for its efficiency and ability to minimise production costs. Electric Hydrogen’s 100 MW modular plants will be ready for deployment in the European Union in 2026, supporting the transition to a decarbonised economy.
