Energy Vault Holdings has announced FID approval for a 57 MW/114 MWh battery energy storage system, titled “Cross Trails,” in Scurry County, Texas. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025, with the 10-year power purchase agreement with Gridmatic commencing that summer.
Energy Vault secures deal for BESS system
The Cross Trails facility, developed and operated by Energy Vault, will strengthen ERCOT’s electric grid by delivering clean, resilient energy while improving grid stability. This project reflects Energy Vault ’s strategy of deploying storage infrastructure in critical locations, optimizing both cost and efficiency through its X-Vault platform and B-VAULT technology .
Robert Piconi, CEO of Energy Vault, highlighted the significance of this development: “ We are pleased to collaborate with Gridmatic, whose AI-based optimisation supports our goal of deploying large-scale storage solutions in a cost-effective and sustainable manner .” Gridmatic, known for its forecasting algorithms, will provide QSE services, maximising the financial performance of the BESS system .
The company’s innovative approach, including flexible battery and inverter supplier options, will enable Cross Trails to adapt to changing market demands. With more than 2 GWh of projects underway, the company continues to drive its commitment to the global energy transition.
