Gazelle Wind Power has secured a significant €11.4 million funding round, led by Indico Capital Partners . This investment fund will enable it to advance the development of its floating offshore wind platform, which aims to solve several environmental and industrial challenges.
Gazelle Wind Power’s financing round
Off the coast of Aguçadoura, Portugal, Gazelle is developing Nau Azul , a 2 MW demonstrator that will serve as a reference for future installations. Jon Salazar, CEO of the company, mentioned the importance of the support of Indico Capital , known for its support of sustainable ocean technologies, and noted that this project will reduce costs, due to its modular, “lego” style design. In addition, the platform’s advanced features and specifications, such as the patented dynamic mooring system , ensure stability in challenging maritime conditions without the use of active ballasts.
Indico Capital Partners representative Stephan de Moraes highlighted the potential of this technology to increase cost competitiveness in wind energy . DST Group and August One also participated in the financing, highlighting the synergy with their energy transition and emissions reduction objectives.
Gazelle’s strategy integrates naval engineering and modularity to facilitate manufacturing and assembly in shipyards close to the installation sites, minimizing environmental impact and optimizing logistics. DST Group President José Teixeira mentioned that his company’s experience in construction and renewable energy will add value to Nau Azul.
Gazelle’s vision and outlook extends beyond Portugal. The opening of a new office in Viana do Castelo seeks to strengthen the local supply chain and capitalize on regional shipbuilding expertise. “ Our approach seeks to create jobs and accelerate the transition to clean energy ,” said Salazar. Committed to investments that benefit the environment and the community, August One expressed enthusiasm for Gazelle’s potential to contribute to a more sustainable energy future.
