Lynas Rare Earths has officially opened its new rare earths processing facility in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The event was attended by the Minister for Resources, the Honourable Madeleine King MP.

The facility, part of Lynas’ 2025 growth plan, represents an investment of $800 million and has been completed in record time. Since construction permits were approved, the plant has been designed, commissioned and is now fully operational in less than two and a half years. This achievement is central to Lynas’ vision of strengthening its position in the global supply chain for rare earths , an essential resource for modern technology.
Amanda Lacaze highlighted the commitment and effort of the Lynas team, stating: “EThis project established rare earth processing for the first time in Australia. We are proud to have created a state-of-the-art facility that opens up new opportunities for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region. ”.
As the only producer of separated rare earths outside of China, Lynas plays a crucial role in sourcing critical components for renewable energy and technology. The Kalgoorlie plant will process mixed rare earth carbonate, which will then be shipped to Malaysia to be separated into individual products. In the future, Lynas also plans to supply facilities in the United States, expanding its influence in the global market.
