Shelf Drilling extends contracts for $197 million in oil drilling in Thailand

The oil company has extended its drilling contract with Chevron in Thailand, ensuring two more years of operation in the large Asian country.

Shelf Drilling has confirmed the extension of contracts for its Chaophraya and Krathong jack-up rigs, in collaboration with Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production . The contracts, valued at approximately USD 197 million, ensure the continued operation of these rigs in the Gulf of Thailand for an additional period of two years, starting in the second half of 2025.

Greg O’Brien, CEO of Shelf Drilling, highlighted the adaptability of the Chaophraya and Krathong platforms to Chevron ‘s standard procedures, an essential feature that has strengthened the relationship between the two companies in the oil sector.

These rigs were specifically designed to meet the demands of Chevron’s operating style in the Gulf of Thailand ,” O’Brien said. The contract extension reaffirms Shelf Drilling’s position as a trusted partner in the Southeast Asia region, particularly for shallow water projects.

Since its founding in 2012, the company has consolidated its leadership in the shallow water drilling sector, with a strong presence in strategic regions such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

Listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange , the Dubai-based company continues to secure major contracts with energy giants, positioning itself as a benchmark in offshore operations. With these extensions, Chevron and Shelf Drilling strengthen their commitment to operational efficiency in Thailand.
