Mitsui E&S Co., Ltd. has secured a key order to supply a high-performance hydrogen compressor, model VD4-250GH-OL , for Japan’s first offshore hydrogen station, a development under the Nippon Foundation’s Zero Emissions Project.
This equipment, requested by Tsuneishi Corporation, will be part of the facilities that will supply hydrogen to ships powered by clean energy , including tugboats with hydrogen combustion engines, with the aim of significantly reducing the carbon footprint in the maritime sector.
Hydrogen compressor is offshore power for Japan
Mitsui E&S’ VD4-250GH-OL compressor is an engineered piece optimized for high-pressure hydrogen compression, ensuring efficient and stable operation even under high flow conditions. This equipment is capable of compressing hydrogen up to 50 MPa, handling a flow rate of 100 kg/h, making it suitable for offshore conditions and allowing its adaptation in various hydrogen supply and transportation applications.
On the other hand, the collaboration between Mitsui E&S and Kaji Technology Corporation in the development of this technology has resulted in a design of high durability and reliability. This project strengthens Mitsui E&S’ vision of contributing to a sustainable hydrogen economy, targeting the maritime sector and also refineries and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plants.
The construction of this offshore hydrogen station, led by JPN H2ydro, represents a strategic step towards the energy transition in Japan, promoting the use of advanced compression technologies and hydrogen infrastructure projects that boost decarbonization at a global level.
