These projects will generate 2,800 MW of renewable energy, powering more than one million homes in New Jersey as the state continues its push to achieve 100% clean energy by 2035.

The approval of these plans sets the stage for construction to begin next year, boosting the creation of thousands of jobs in high-demand sectors. Atlantic Shores CEO Joris Veldhoven expressed his enthusiasm: ” This is a critical step toward building New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm, which will bring clean energy and strengthen the local economy through investments in the supply chain.

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind is a partnership between Shell New Energies and EDF Renewables , and is positioned as a benchmark in the energy transition on the US East Coast. The approved projects will ensure a stable supply of clean energy, while dramatically minimising the impact of carbon emissions in the region.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also welcomed the approval, stressing that offshore wind energy is key to the state’s future. ” With these projects, we are ensuring a cleaner future and creating good-paying jobs that will benefit our communities ,” Murphy said.

BOEM ‘s approval of the COP reinforces the U.S. administration’s commitment to the development of renewable energy, contributing to the ongoing fight against climate change and its effects on marine biodiversity.
