Genia Bioenergy, a company in which Repsol is an active participant, has partnered with the Jaén Agritech Ventures Foundation to launch a project that seeks to produce biomethane using organic waste from the province. This project contemplates the use of by-products such as alperujo, a residue from olive groves, and slurry from pig farms, taking a significant step towards a more sustainable and green economy.
To achieve this goal, the company has signed agreements with associations of pig producers and cooperatives in the olive oil sector. These alliances will make it possible to transform waste that is difficult to manage into a valuable source of renewable energy. renewable energy. In addition to solving an environmental problem, these activities will bring direct economic benefit to the rural communities involved.
How will biomethane be produced?
The process is based on anaerobic digestiona biological technique that allows the transformation of this waste into biogas. Subsequently, the gas obtained is refined to obtain high quality biomethane, which will be injected directly into the Enagás subway gas pipeline that crosses the province. This initiative contributes to the decarbonization of the economy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the reuse of waste in a circular economy cycle.
In addition to biomethane, these facilities will also produce organic fertilizers. organic fertilizers and compost and compost, which can be used to enrich agricultural fields. This circular economy model ensures that the by-products return to the productive cycle, closing the circle of waste utilization.
Project impact
Each biomethane plant plant will be able to process between 85,000 and 125,000 tons of waste per year, generating around 80 to 90 GWh/year of renewable energy. Furthermore, the implementation of these projects is expected to generate more than 60 jobs, both direct and indirect, contributing to the economic development of the rural areas where they are located.
