Air Liquide announces opening of 20 MW green hydrogen plant

The hydrogen produced will be distributed through Air Liquide's existing pipeline to supply different customers in the region.

Air Liquide continues to strengthen its energy targets with the inauguration of a 20 MW electrolyzer plant at its facility in Oberhausen, Germany. This plant, considered the largest of its kind in the country, will produce up to 2,900 tons of green hydrogen per year using PEM electrolyzer technology developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy.

The plant was inaugurated in the presence of Hendrik Wüst, the Prime Minister of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, who stressed the importance of hydrogen as a vital solution for a climate-neutral future, especially in energy-intensive industries such as steel and chemicals.

The start-up and operation of this large electrolyzer is a historic event for the care and protection of the environment in our industrial region and brings us closer to becoming the first climate-neutral industrial region in Europe.

The power supply for the plant is secured by a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Statkraft, which will provide wind powerensuring that the hydrogen produced is fully renewable and complies with European clean energy standards.
