MyNu Energy, a Queensland-based company, is transforming used electric vehicle (EV) batteries into massive energy storage solutions, offering a cost-effective and sustainable alternative.
A new use for used electric vehicle batteries
Through its recent commercial deployment in Brisbanethe company has begun deploying 20-foot containers that house 18 electric vehicle batteries, providing a storage capacity of 1 MWh, scalable up to 100 MWh. These solutions are designed to be deployed quickly and adapt to a variety of applications, from replacing diesel generators to providing power in microgrids and emergency situations.
One of MyNu Energy’s objectives is to reduce energy storage costs by up to one-third compared to traditional alternatives. It is also committed to extending the life of electric vehicle batteries, minimizing their environmental impact.
Importantly, the company offers flexible procurement options, such as fully maintained leasing plans, which make this technology accessible to businesses and communities.
MyNu Energy founder and CEO Shaun Nugent stresses that the goal is to maximize the potential of these batteries, ensuring up to 10 more years of use. In addition, the company has developed a portable and smaller version of its storage systemcapable of powering an average household for six days, ideal for situations requiring reliable off-grid power.
