Norwind and Wind Energy Construction AS, have taken a significant step in the development of offshore renewables by signing a contract with Vard for the design and construction of an advanced energy construction vessel (ECV). This new vessel, which represents the sixth collaboration between the companies, will be delivered in the second quarter of 2027.

We are delighted to have developed, together with Vard, a new category of vessels that will allow the development of renewable energies to an unprecedented level. This concept, based on vessels we have previously built, will be key to the growth of offshore wind energy in the coming years.

noted Svein Leon Aure, CEO of Norwind Offshore.

Characteristics of the ECV vessel

The vessel, which will be built at the Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam, will have state-of-the-art features that will position it as a benchmark in the sector. These include a walk-to-work gangway and a 150-ton offshore subsea crane, both integrated to optimize operations in the renewable energy market and subsea infrastructure.

With a length of 111.5 meters and a beam of 22.4 meters, the ECV will be Vard’s first vessel designed under the VARD 3 11 model, specifically adapted for the wind and subsea energy market. Its capacity to accommodate up to 120 people and its advanced, methanol-ready hybrid propulsion technology underline the commitment of the companies involved to sustainability and operational efficiency.

Norwind and Wind Energy strengthen offshore position

This contract reaffirms Vard’s leadership in the specialized shipbuilding industry and its pivotal role in the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy.

Together with our partners, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, developing vessels that not only meet today’s needs, but also anticipate the future demands of the renewable energy market.

Torgeir Haugan, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Vard, commented.

This project underscores Norwind Offshore’s vision of being a leader in the delivery of advanced offshore services for marine energy advanced services for marine energy development, strengthening its presence in a rapidly growing and highly competitive market.
