At the Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam, construction has begun on the last of six robotic ammonia ships. 86-meter robotic ammonia vessels designed to operate with ammonia. This project, commissioned by Houston-based Ocean Infinity, officially began on July 8, 2024 with the keel laying of vessel number 958, marking a major achievement in the development of advanced marine technologies.
Ocean Infinity expands its fleet with new ammonia vessels
For its part, Ocean had ordered this new series of robotic vessels in February 2022, with the aim of expanding its Armada fleet. This latest vessel represents the culmination of a series designed to be operated remotely from onshore control centers, and all are expected to use green ammonia as their primary energy source, an initiative in line with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Importantly, the complete series will be delivered by Vard Vung Tau shipyard in 2025. These vessels are equipped with fuel cell and battery technology, and are set to have an extremely low carbon footprint. Their versatile design allows them to serve in a variety of roles, supporting the global operations of Ocean Infinity.
The preceding series, which included eight 78-meter Armada vessels also adapted for ammonia, was recently completed with the delivery of the last vessel in January 2024. This ongoing development highlights Ocean Infinity’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in its marine operations.
