The company Naturmet, dedicated to the production of biogas from organic waste and by-products from the agricultural sector, has announced an investment of more than 15 million euros in biomethane for Puente Genil, Córdoba. This project involves the construction of a biomethane plant plant that will guarantee the self-supply of sustainable natural gas for the for the municipality and surrounding areas.

In a statement issued last Monday, the Puente Genil City Council informed that the plant will have the capacity to generate up to 60 GWh/year of biomethane. This production will supply natural gas to a population of approximately 55,000 inhabitants.

Naturmet has signed agreements with several companies, farmers and ranchers to facilitate the creation of the plant, thus optimizing by-products and organic waste. organic waste and organic waste generated in the region.

Project details

The company has initiated the administrative procedures in collaboration with the City Council and the Junta de Andalucía. In addition, it has acquired a four-hectare property for the construction of the plant, specifically designed to blend in with its surroundings and comply with current environmental regulations.

The mayor, Sergio Velasco (PP), stressed the importance of this investment to strengthen the local industrial sector. He added that this project will enable efficient and sustainable management of agricultural and livestock waste from both economic and environmental perspectives.

Investing 15 million euros in biomethane will bring benefits

The investment will also generate eighteen direct jobs related to the operation, maintenance and logistics of the plant. Dario Perez, Naturmet’s representative, emphasized that these jobs will be of high quality.

Finally, Naturmet has plans to build a total of seven plants in Andalusia, including the future facilities in Mengíbar future facilities in Mengíbar (Jaén) and (Jaén) and Dos Hermanas (Seville), which are expected to be operational in the coming months.
