Shell has achieved a milestone in the Jerun field in Malaysia, extracting the first gas from this strategic location. With a 30% investment, Shell, through its subsidiary Sarawak Shell Berhad, is actively participating in this project, which started to be developed after the final investment decision was made in 2021.
Shell’s Jerun field
The Jerun field is located approximately 160 kilometers northwest of Bintulu and 190 kilometers from Miri, both in Sarawak, Malaysia. This project includes a central processing platform that has the capacity to export gas to capacity to export gas through a new 80-kilometer pipeline to the E11RB through a new 80-kilometer pipeline to the E11RB production center.
From there, the gas is distributed to various customers in Bintulu, including Malaysia LNG. The facility is designed to generate up to 550 million cubic feet of gas daily, with an additional 15,000 barrels of condensate produced each day during its production peak.
For her part, Zoë Yujnovich, Shell’s Integrated Gas and Upstream Director, highlighted the importance of Jerun in the company’s global strategy.“Jerun represents a strategic investment for Shell, leveraging our presence in this crucial offshore Sarawak region of Malaysia, where we also operate the Timi platform and are developing the Rosmari-Marjoram project,” Yujnovich said.
Finally, Shell is proud of its track record in Malaysia, where, under the supervision of Malaysia Petroleum Management and PETRONAS, it continues to support the country’s economic progress and energy transition through solid and lasting investments. The Jerun operation is shared with SapuraOMV Upstream, which owns 40%, and PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, which also holds another 30%.
