The mining company Eramet has announced the inauguration of its direct lithium extraction(DLE) plant in Salta, Argentina. This event marks the formal start of the production of essential metals for the country’s energy transition.

The Centenario plant is expected to start first production in November 2024. Once operating at full capacity, the plant will produce 24,000 tons per year of lithium carbonate, enough to supply 600,000 electric vehicles. This initial phase of the project required a series of tests at the beginning of the year and a total investment of approximately US$870 million. and a total investment of approximately US$870 million, and is estimated to generate an annual EBITDA of between US$210 million and US$315 million.
Eramet has developed in-house advanced DLE technology, which has a recovery rate of 90%. This technology is protected by 12 patents, and was created by Eramet Ideas in France. The Centenario-Ratones deposit, located in the “lithium triangle”, is the epicenter of this innovative operation.

The company is committed to meeting stringent sustainable mining standards and has adopted the IRMA standard to ensure responsible practices. The mining company establishes an ongoing dialogue with local communities, including the Kollas community, and collaborates with local NGOs for job creation and community development. Eramet scheduled the presentation of its half-year results for July 25, 2024 and the release of its third quarter figures for October 24, 2024.
