New solar trees installed in Valencia to charge electric devices

A single solar tree in Valencia can generate up to 5,313 kWh of energy annually, except for the one on the Turia River, which produces 2,657 kWh.

Solar trees have been installed in the Benicalap neighborhood, specifically on Riu Segre street, the Valencia Marina, along the Remor promenade, the XIV section of the Turia Garden, and in the Malilla Park in Spain. This technological structure implements photovoltaic panels that mimic the shape of a tree. Each of these solar trees allows recharging electric bicycles, scooters, skateboards, as well as cell phones, tablets and other electronic devices.

How do solar trees work?

These trees are powered by solar energy solar energyThe photovoltaic panels integrated into their structure mimic branches and leaves, thus capturing the sun’s energy. They are oriented to maximize the capture of sunlight throughout the day. When sunlight strikes the panels, the semiconductor materials inside them generate an electric current. The energy generated is stored in batteries integrated into the tree or sent directly to the local power grid.

Each photovoltaic tree is capable of generating up to 3.6 kW of energy under optimal conditions, producing around 5,600 kWh per year. Each unit is composed of 12 solar panels of 300 W each.

In terms of environmental impact, these trees are quite efficient; for example, a single tree can generate 5,313 kWh of energy per year, except for the one on the Turia River, which produces 2,657 kWh. Together, the four solar trees will produce a total of 18,596 kWh of energy annually.

Functionality and aesthetics for the city

Solar trees are designed to be functional and to integrate aesthetically into the urban environment. Their artistic and eco-friendly structure provides shade and a resting space for passersby. Some models even feature LED lighting to improve safety in public areas at night and Wi-Fi hotspots to improve connectivity in the city.

This combination of technology and urban design promotes sustainability and improves the quality of life for citizens.

In addition, the mayoress announced that the City Council is finishing the installation of intelligent pavements in the neighborhoods of Benimaclet, Benimàmet and Patraix. These pavements will also serve as solar charging stations for personal mobility vehicles, with capacity to recharge up to 4 scooters and 3 electric bicycles.
