Energy industry engineering and construction solutions provider McDermott has been chosen by Abraxas Power Corporation to participate in Canada’s first commercial hydrogen and green ammonia production facility. The project, called Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC), will be located in central Newfoundland.

This ambitious project will include the creation of a wind farm with up to 530 turbines capable of generating 3.5 GW of electricity, in addition to 150 MW of solar photovoltaic energy. solar photovoltaic (PV) (PV). The facility will have the capacity to produce 165,000 tons per year of hydrogen and 5,000 metric tons per day of ammonia.

Scope of the project

Within the scope of the agreement, McDermott will provide front-end engineering design (FEED), engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) execution planning services, in addition to an open-book EPC cost estimate for the hydrogen production ammonia processing and product storage portions of the project.

The work will be coordinated from McDermott’s Houston office, with support from its office in Gurgaon, India. This joint effort seeks to ensure that the EVREC project is completed efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
