Solarwatt no producirá más baterías

Due to the lack of financial support from the European Union in the face of foreign competition, Solarwatt will no longer produce batteries in Europe. So far, these batteries have been developed and produced in Dresden in cooperation with the BMW Group. This is in addition to the earlier announcement of the shutdown of PV panel production scheduled for this summer.

Although production will continue in Germany until the end of 2024, from January 2025, the next generation of batteries will be manufactured by industrial partners abroad.

Solarwatt will no longer produce batteries to face Asian competition

This decision comes in response to intense competition from Asian manufacturers, whose low prices have saturated the European market. Solarwatt, one of Europe’s leading solar PV companies, joins other European companies that have recently closed, such as Norwegian companies Norwegian Crystals and Norsun.

In a statement, Detlef Neuhaus, CEO of Solarwatt, announced that the company will stop producing these batteries at its Dresden plant as of January 2025. This measure seeks to maintain the competitiveness of Solarwatt’s Solarwatt’s products, respecting the company’s high quality and safety standards, established through strategic partnerships with the automotive industry.

Solarwatt starts a new phase in its production area

Solarwatt, which employs 750 people throughout Europe, plans to make a workforce adjustment that will affect about 50 employees. Despite the suspension of battery production in Germany, the company plans a“retraining of employees and their skills“, a process that will be carried out through the Solarwatt Academy.

Therefore, Solarw a tt is embarking on a new stage in its production area, planning to design and manufacture a new generation of batteries that, although not produced in Europe, will offer its customers technologically advanced products at competitive prices. Despite these changes, the company assures that “research, development, as well as quality and product management will remain in Dresden, similar to the solar panels”.
