Survitec has launched a safety device designed to contain energy and reduce the risks associated with catastrophic valve actuator failures. This development comes in response to problems identified in the North Sea oil and gas sector, as well as on oil platforms and other floating installations such as FPSOs and FSRUs.
Survitec Gauntlet reduces valve actuator failures
Survitec introduced the Survitec Gauntlet, which can be implemented in any facility that operates actuator valves and requires risk mitigation. This device operates in situations where failure of high-pressure spring-loaded actuators can release explosive forces that can cause serious or fatal injuries, as well as damage to equipment and installations.
The periodic inspections and maintenance Periodic inspections and maintenance are often insufficient, and the risks associated with these failures have received little attention in terms of technological advances or regulation. However, the Survitec Gauntlet seeks to change this reality by offering effective protection.
The Survitec Gauntlet, compatible with all types of valve actuators, is a protective sleeve made of a lightweight para-aramid armor, with a resistance greater than “bulletproof” level, ten times stronger than steel. This construction is designed to contain the forces of an unpredictable failure, to respond to a contingency, offering a robust and safe solution.
The security and protection level of the device
With technical certification from Lloyd’s Register, the Survitec gauntlet offers immediate containment protection, enhancing safety measures and minimizing potential hazards. Its lightweight design ensures a slight additional stress on the actuator, while at the same time protecting the devices from corrosion and degradation of component life.
In addition, Survitec has been successful in supplying its gauntlets to numerous operators, including major North Sea companies. Recently, they have received an important order from a Spanish operator in the oil and gas sector, demonstrating the reliability and safety of this device.
