Kinetiko Energy has successfully demonstrated its natural gas-to-power capability through its Gas-to-Power ( GtP ) initiative at the Amersfoort project in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The use of natural gas in energy projects
The company is advancing the commercialization of shallow conventional gas projects in the provinces of Mpumalanga, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal. These decisions are part of a broader strategy to integrate energy solutions and mitigate the country’s energy crisis.
The CEO, Nick de Blocq , expressed his satisfaction, saying: “We are delighted to be pioneering terrestrial GtP from a local conventional source. This event demonstrates our capability and establishes us as a proven solution within South Africa’s planned energy mix to address the energy crisis.“.
Earlier this month, natural gas from the Korhaan-1 well at the Amersfoort project was used to power a 12-cylinder gas generator, producing 1.2 MW and connected to a newly built gas train, a major technical achievement for Kinetiko .
A success in the conversion of natural gas to energy
Working with FFS Refiners, the company reported that gas quality was impressively high, with a calibrated meter showing nearly 99% methane and just 1% nitrogen, during continuous flow periods, according to studies.

The partnership will allow the development of a liquefied natural gas production field and after the recent successful demonstration, augurs a better outlook for Kinetiko ‘s objectives of expanding the Korhaan group from five to approximately 30 wells, under the support of the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa.
