The first Vestas V174-9.5 MW turbines have been installed by the Fred company at the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm , which has a capacity of 476 MW. The process was carried out using Olsen Windcarrier’s Blue Tern jack-up vessel. Currently, the Blue Tern is in the port of Rønne, Denmark, preparing to load more wind turbines that will be mounted on monopiles.

Installation of turbines and foundations in the offshore wind farm ends successfully

Initially, Van Oord was responsible for installing all of the Baltic Eagle’s foundations, along with the transition pieces (TP), concluding this phase at the end of the previous year. To complete this task, the work was organized in two stages, using the vessels Brouwersgracht from Spliethoff and Fairplayer from Jumbo.

In 2021, Vestas secured an agreement with Iberdrola to provide the project’s wind turbines. That same year, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier signed a contract with the Danish turbine manufacturer for the transport and installation of 50 9.5 MW wind turbines in this park located in the German Baltic Sea, northeast of the island of Rügen, off the coast of Pomerania.

Baltic Eagle: Wind energy for 475,000 homes

The Baltic Eagle project, which is expected to be operational later this year, will connect its facilities to the German high-voltage power grid via the Ostwind 2 connection. It is estimated that the park will generate enough energy for approximately 475,000 homes , reducing CO₂ emissions by about 800,000 tons annually. This initiative is the result of a collaboration between Masdar , based in Abu Dhabi, and Iberdrola.

Collaboration between international companies on renewable energy projects such as the Baltic Eagle reinforces the global energy transition towards more sustainable sources and strengthens economic and technological cooperation between countries. This project highlights how the integration of advanced technology and strategic partnerships can significantly accelerate the adoption of renewable energy .
