La primera batería de agua

A study by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences allowed the development of the first water battery as an electrolyte solution to dissolve electrolytes , representing an innovative and safer alternative to traditional lithium batteries.

The “first water battery” with large capacity

This innovative model doubles the energy capacity, in relation to the lithium-ion batteries we know. In addition, research indicates that the new water batteries can offer up to 1,000 charge cycles .

Although lithium batteries allow a sustainable amount of energy , they face environmental challenges such as raw material shortages, recycling problems and flammability risks. The new water battery overcomes all these challenges while guaranteeing greater safety and efficiency in the long term.

The structure of this battery includes a cathode that combines bromine and iodine, facilitating halogen multielectron transfer . This mechanism allows for higher energy density, with a capacity of more than 840 amp hours per liter and a density of 1200 watt hours per liter. This capacity would allow the electric vehicle industry to offer greater autonomy.
