The National Administration of Electric Power Plants and Transmissions (UTE) Uruguay has opened the call for the development of a new 25 MW photovoltaic park in the town of Punta del Tigre, marking a significant step in the advancement of renewable energies in the country.

Interested parties may submit their proposals until May 22 of this year , with an execution period of 548 days once the tender is awarded.

Details of the UTE Uruguay solar project

The future photovoltaic park , which will be located in Cerámicas del Sur, will have inverters with a minimum power of 25 MW in alternating current and solar panels that exceed 27.5 MWp of STC capacity. With a designed useful life of 30 years, this project aligns with the sustainable and long-term vision promoted by the country’s energy policy.

As reported by Energía Estratégica, this initiative is the first of two tenders scheduled by UTE for this year , and the call for a 75 MW photovoltaic plant in Cerro Largo is also expected. This effort reflects Uruguay’s commitment to the energy transition and the diversification of its electrical matrix.

Requirements and financial aspects

It is important to note that the tender not only focuses on technical capacity and efficiency, but also sets important social requirements. It is required that 80% of work hours be carried out by Uruguayans or residents who contribute to national social security. In addition, labor inclusion is promoted by requiring that 50% of the staff be women or young people under 24 years of age or over 50 years of age.

Regarding equipment, bidders must meet a series of technical specifications and prove previous experience in similar projects. The history of having built and commissioned photovoltaic parks of at least 20 MW or two 10 MW plants in the last eight years will be assessed.

The call details that the budget for the main supplies must not exceed 400 million Uruguayan pesos , while the commissioning and final reception cannot be less than 100 million Uruguayan pesos. For quotes in foreign currency, the official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Uruguay at the close of the business day prior to the opening of offers will be applied.

This project, in addition to being an advance in the country’s energy infrastructure, represents an opportunity to strengthen local industry and promote inclusive employment. With this step, Uruguay is positioned as a benchmark in the region in terms of the adoption of clean and sustainable energy.

Likewise, UTE Uruguay continues its trajectory in promoting renewable energies, contributing to the national objective of reducing dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating environmental impact.
