Sea Machines Robotics, a Boston-based company, has brought to market its first fully operational unmanned surface vessel (USV), named Selkie . This launch marks an important milestone for the company, since the SELKIE 7, a 7-meter USV, is equipped with the SM300 autonomous control and management system, considered the company’s most notable product.

Multifunctional Autonomous Vessel

The SELKIE 7 is positioned as Sea Machines ‘ first fully autonomous vessel, designed with a specific focus on executing critical tasks such as hydrographic surveys and maritime infrastructure inspections. In addition, it is capable of carrying out extended missions over water, including studies related to the environment and security .

This advanced USV offers operational flexibility, and can be operated manually or through a completely autonomous mode, as specified by Sea Machines. Such dual capability meets current demands for versatility in maritime operations.

A standout feature of the SELKIE is its cargo storage area, which measures 2 x 1.3 meters, equivalent to the capacity of two Euro Pallets. This design is optimized to maximize logistical efficiency on long-range missions. Additionally, SELKIE includes deck hatches that can be operated remotely, facilitating the deployment of payloads at sea. These payloads include unmanned aerial vehicles, which can be used for inspections or marine surveillance.

Sea Machines: Sailing into the Future

Michael G. Johnson, founder and CEO of Sea Machines, has highlighted the company’s nine-year trajectory in the development of autonomous technologies and aquatic operations and Johnson highlights that the vision behind SELKIE is to provide global fleet operators with innovative solutions that add significant value to their day-to-day operations.

With this launch, Sea Machines Robotics not only reinforces its position as a leader in the field of maritime robotics, but also sets a precedent in the implementation of advanced autonomous technologies in the maritime operations and logistics sector.
