A private event was attended by government representatives, industry leaders and indigenous partners from the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh communities for a traditional welcoming ceremony.

Prime Minister David Eby, present at the ceremony, highlighted the relevance of these tugboats for the environmental sustainability of the region. “The impact of these electric tugboats on pollution reduction is equivalent to removing 600 vehicles per year from the road. What we are witnessing today in British Columbia is a model for the future.“, he emphasized.

Supported by the Province of BC, Teck Resources Limited, Neptune Terminals, Oldendorff Carriers and BC Hydro, the project will begin operations in May. This effort promotes the use of clean energy, and also demonstrates the commitment of local industry.
