ACME Group together with Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, have announced their research project for the establishment of a hydrogen supply chain from Oman to Europe.
Exploration and feasibility study of the hydrogen chain
This initiative is based on a Memorandum of Understanding that includes a feasibility study for the transport of hydrogen from ACME’s facilities in Oman to European destinations using advanced liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) technology.
Both companies seek to tap Oman’s vast renewable energy resources to generate hydrogen. And also, to include the evaluation of a hydrogen value chain connecting the United States with Europe. This expansion is considered within the framework of the benefits offered by the Inflation Reduction Act, which promotes the production of production of hydrogen .
The importance of LOHC technology, implemented by Hydrogenious, facilitates large-scale hydrogen shipping, opening the door to economical and sustainable imports into Europe. The green hydrogen produced will be stored at LOHC for safe and efficient transport, using the existing infrastructure for transporting liquid fuels.
The detailed hydrogen supply chain process
It is important to convert the hydrogen into a safe and manageable form by chemically bonding it to the thermal oil benzyltoluene (LOHC-BT), which allows its storage and transport at normal pressure and temperature conditions. Toralf Pohl, CCO of Hydrogenious, highlighted the safety and efficiency of LOHC-BT, ideal for handling in urban environments and ports, given its low flammability and stability.
Ashwani Dudeja, leader of ACME, highlighted the firm decision to move forward with the project in Oman and the partnership with Hydrogenious to develop an efficient logistics solution. This collaboration promises to offer an economically and technically viable proposal for the energy market.
Yara Clean Ammonia’s commitment to purchase 100,000 tons of ammonia from ACME’s Oman facility, backed by a loan obtained last year, underscores the economic potential and confidence in this transcontinental energy project.
