A new discovery in a key oil field has been revealed in the waters of the Bohai Sea, offshore China, by CNOOC Limited, the Chinese oil and gas giant. The Chinese company has drilled and completed the QHD27-3-3 well to a depth of 1,570 meters, discovering 48.9 meters of productive oil zones.
This field, called Qinhuangdao 27-3, has added more than 100 million tons of oil equivalent to the proven volumes. The discovery, located in an area with an average depth of approximately 25 meters.
Large oil field in Chinese waters
With the Neogene Minghuazhen Formation as the main reservoir, the oil extracted is characterized by medium-heavy quality, reflecting the diversity of oil resources in the region. This achievement is the result of continued investment and exploration in the complex strike-slip fault zones of the Bohai Sea, according to Xu Changgui, deputy director of exploration for CNOOC.
It has also been confirmed that the Qinhuangdao 27-3 field has a daily production of approximately 742 barrels of crude oil per well, further consolidating its importance in the energy landscape. The company has demonstrated its continued commitment to the exploration and development of energy resources, having taken advantage of the increase in proven in-situ reserves, which now stand at approximately 104 million tons of oil.
The president of CNOOC Limited, Zhou Xinhuai, detailed that the strategic plan of these discoveries, expand the base of oil and gas resources in the country.oil resources base and strengthen the country’s energy supply capacity.
