Nordion Energi and St1 have joined forces to launch an initiative for a proposed new liquid biogas plant in Gothenburg, Sweden.
This project consists of the establishment of a liquid biogas production facility (LBG), aimed at transforming biogas into a liquid fuel, which will serve as an environmentally friendly alternative for maritime transport, heavy road transport and other industrial sectors.
A liquid biogas plant as a fuel alternative
This agreement between the two companies signals a capacity purchase by St1 to create a collaborative model for biogas utilization. The project will be the first facility of its kind to be directly linked to the gas grid in western Sweden.
In this way, it is expected to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, marking a step forward in the country’s energy transition. This will mark a step forward in the country’s energy transition. The plant’s biogas liquefaction capacity is favorable, allowing it to process 250 GWh per year.
Statements from representatives of both companies highlight the importance of biogas in the energy transition and the opportunity this project provides to extend the use of biogas beyond existing gas grid connections.
