Tetra Pak installs solar panels in its Spanish plants

Tetra Pak, a world leader in packaging and food processing solutions, installs solar panels as an energy project at its plants located in Spain. This initiative, developed in collaboration with BayWa r.e., a specialist in energy solutions for companies, consists of the installation of more than 3,000 photovoltaic panels for self-consumption in these facilities.

The company installs solar panels to save energy

It aims to achieve zero emissions throughout its value chain by 2030. In this context, the new photovoltaic installations will generate almost 2 million kWh of green energy per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 485 households.

The investment made by Tetra Pak in these facilities not only has a direct impact on reducing CO₂ emissions, but also contributes to the development of a more sustainable and efficient energy infrastructure. Thanks to the energy generated by the photovoltaic panels, indirect savings of 706 tons of CO₂ per year are estimated, equivalent to that which would be generated by more than 32,000 adult trees.

The project carried out in Tetra Pak’s plants in Spain includes the installation of 3,132 photovoltaic modules in strategic locations such as rooftops. This strategic distribution of panels maximizes the generation of clean, renewable energy, thus ensuring a more sustainable and efficient power supply for the company’s operations.

A positive contribution to the environment

In the complex, located in Arganda del Rey, Madrid, 1,700 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof, distributed in three buildings of Tetra Pak Envases and Tetra Pak Hispania. The safety and reliability of the installations are top priorities for Tetra Pak and BayWa r.e. For this reason, the highest standards in connection and cybersecurity have been implemented, thus guaranteeing the correct operation and protection of the installed energy systems.

In addition to reducing CO₂ emissions, these photovoltaic installations offer the possibility of optimizing the energy efficiency of Tetra Pak’s infrastructures. An integrated management system, the surplus energy generated in a building can be used by other facilities, thus contributing to greater economic and environmental savings.

A complete energy solution

At the Seville plant, an even more complete energy solution has been implemented, including the installation of 1,432 solar panels on the roof of the building and on the parking canopies.

Ramiro Ortiz, general manager of Tetra Pak Iberia, highlights the importance of this project, in the reduction of CO₂ emissions and the promotion of renewable energy, as fundamental pillars towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
