Fishbones , in collaboration with major Norwegian operator Aker BP , has launched an industrial technology development project with the aim of improving oil recovery from reservoir assets .

About the oil recovery project

This project, supported by a $121,000 grant from the Research Council of Norway, will focus on advancing extended reach needles, small diameter laterals that are introduced into the reservoir to increase hydrocarbon recovery. The goal is to expand the current range of the Fishbones needles by 50%, going from 12 meters to 18 meters.

It is important to highlight that the company has experienced increases in well productivity thanks to its lateral stimulation technology and seeks further improvements by extending the reach of the needle, providing customized solutions for various operational needs in order to increase the recoverable reserves of the fields.

Fishbones is one of the well technologies that Aker BP strategically invests in to enhance the value of the IOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) portfolio. New extended lateral reach components can further expand the application range of this technology“said Per Øyvind Seljebotn, senior vice president of exploration and field development at Aker BP.
