Technology for the inspection of marine platforms

MODEC and Terra Drone Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance the technical development of drones intended for the inspection of FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading system), a conventional offshore platform.

MODEC FPSOs maintain their integrity through periodic inspections and maintenance to ensure consistent oil and gas production over long periods exceeding 20 years. However, manual inspections in elevated locations and confined areas present significant challenges in terms of occupational health and safety. Additionally, lengthy inspections on large marine structures are recurring challenges in the industry.

To address these challenges, MODEC capitalizes on its experience by partnering with Terra Drone and its patented Terra UT Drone. The purpose of this collaboration is to address common issues in the offshore oil and gas industry.

By developing drone technology that improves safety, reduces the need for manpower and optimizes inspection operations, MODEC and Terra Drone aim to contribute to the sustainable operation of marine structures from environmental, economic and social perspectives.
