Hydrogen Park Gladstone, an ambitious project with funding of 14.5 million Australian dollars, has officially begun its construction phase. The Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) is leading this innovative effort, backed by a significant investment of A$2.72 million from the Queensland Government’s Hydrogen Industry Development Fund.
Hydrogen Park Gladstone marks a milestone
By early 2024, HyP Gladstone will transform energy supply by providing renewable hydrogen to 800 local homes and businesses. The highlight is that it will not be necessary to make changes to appliances, gas connections or monthly bills and in addition, the system incorporates up to 10% renewable hydrogen in its gas supply.
As the era of sustainable energy approaches, Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles highlights the significance of this major project. Miles emphasizes how the region is uniquely positioned to embrace these transformations driven by Hydrogen Park in Gladstone.
The Port of Gladstone’s strategic location, access to crucial infrastructure and skilled workforce make it uniquely positioned to capitalize on this clean energy renaissance.
For his part, AGIG CEO Craig de Laine underlines the growing importance of renewable energy sources and in particular hydrogen.
Hydrogen Park Gladstone represents a significant milestone and stands as a trailblazer for projects across the region, breaking new ground and offering a vision of the future when it comes to low-carbon gas supply in Australia. Additionally, state-of-the-art gas distribution infrastructure has the ability to safely and reliably provide renewable gases, including hydrogen, with minimal additional costs.
