Iveco and Hyundai collaboration
The companies have revealed their first joint project: an electric bus powered by a hydrogen fuel cell.
During the Busworld 2023 event that took place in Brussels, Belgium, the allied companies presented the result of their collaboration that began in March 2022. This joint project is called Iveco Bus E-Way H2 and it is an electric bus that uses a hydrogen fuel cell as an energy source.
The production of this vehicle will take place at Iveco Bus facilities located in France and Italy. With the introduction of the E-Way H2, Iveco expands its technology offering, which already includes electric buses such as the E-Way, capable of traveling up to 543 kilometers on a single charge. For its part, Hyundai markets this technology in the Nexo, a hydrogen model.
About the E-Way H2
E-Way H2 has a length of 12 meters and is available in configurations with two or three access doors, being capable of accommodating up to 115 passengers. This bus incorporates an electric motor that provides a power of 310 kW (equivalent to 415 HP), along with a maximum torque of 3,000 Nm.
In addition, the vehicle has four tanks that store a total of 7.8 kg of hydrogen, as well as a battery pack with a capacity of 69 kWh. This translates into a driving range of approximately 450 km under normal conditions.
It should be noted that this hybrid vehicle offers the flexibility to recharge it both with hydrogen and through a plug-in electrical connection. This not only optimizes the efficiency of the charging process, but also benefits both the onboard battery pack and the fuel cell system. When it comes to recharging, the battery pack can be charged in one hour, while the fuel cell requires only 15 minutes to recharge.
