Within the framework of the XIX SLOM 2023 Conference , Gregorio Rojas from Inspenet.com had the honor of speaking with José Perdomo, founding member and secretary of the Latin American Society of Maritime, Oil and Monobuoy Terminal Operators ( SLOM ).

José, with his vast experience and knowledge in the sector, shared his reflections on the evolution of SLOM from its beginnings in 2005 in Lechería, Venezuela, to the present day. He recalled with nostalgia how the first meeting at the Punta Palma Hotel brought together 75 people, focused mainly on the operation of Monobuoys. Since then, they have grown exponentially, expanding their focus to Onshore and Offshore terminals, and becoming a benchmark for the industry in Latin America.

One of the crucial topics addressed was spill prevention and environmental management. José emphasized the importance of perfecting emergency plans and creating a culture of prevention, given the polluting nature of hydrocarbons. He highlighted the holding of more than 600 workshops in 19 years, with a significant focus on emergency response and minimizing environmental impacts.

Speaking about the future, José highlighted the role of Petrobras in deepwater technology development and how SLOM has learned and been inspired by its experience. He also mentioned the need to integrate Latin America into the international market, noting the presence of professionals from various parts of the world at the 19th SLOM Conference .

Finally, José reiterated that SLOM is not just a commercial platform, but a technical one, aimed at integrating professionals in the oil sector. With constant growth and a clear vision, they remain a pillar in the maritime industry in Latin America.
