From Villahermosa, Mexico, during the IMCORRS 2023 conference, Antonio Zavarce of Inspenet interviewed Rafael Gómez Cantú, Chief Operating Officer of ITC (Ingeniería Total y Comercializadora), who offered us a detailed view of his organization and its services.

Founded more than 25 years ago in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, ITC is dedicated to offering a variety of corrosion-related services. Its goal is always to exceed its clients’ expectations, providing results in optimal times for decision making. Although its main service is cathodic protection, it also offers corrosion detection in underwater lines, location of buried metal structures, and non-destructive testing.

As for the technology they use in offshore operations, they make use of robots called ROVs, which allow work to be carried out without exposing divers to the extreme pressures of the seabed. These robots, in addition to being safer, are more efficient, performing the work of several divers at once.

During the conference, they presented their new “fix” technology, designed to detect cathodic protection on underwater lines using ROVs. It works with voltage gradients detected by electromagnetic sensors, which are brought close to underwater structures by the robot. The information captured is processed in software that provides essential data about the structure.
