Industrial coatings that protect Panama’s infrastructure
Description
PPG strengthens its presence in the country with high-performance solutions applied to key projects such as Metro Line 3.
Within the framework of the LatinCORR 2025 conference, the Inspenet team had the opportunity to talk with Leydis Escobar, Industrial B2B Key Account Manager at PPG Industries Panama Inc. about the role that industrial coatings play in the development of critical infrastructure in the country. His participation highlighted the technological versatility and sustainable vision of the company, which is already an active part of some of the most relevant projects in the region.
PPG and its role in the protection of industrial assets
PPG Industries is a global company specializing in paints, coatings and specialty materials, with a presence in more than 70 countries and operations in strategic sectors such as transportation, construction, energy and manufacturing. In Panama, the company has consolidated its position as a reliable technical partner thanks to a robust offering in industrial coatings and a team of highly trained professionals.
During the event, Leydis Escobar highlighted that this is the first time that Panama hosts an event of such magnitude in the field of coatings, with international exhibitors and cutting-edge technology.
A technical portfolio adapted to market requirements
PPG offers a range of coatings capable of responding to a variety of operating conditions. Among the most sought-after solutions are intumescent coatings, fast-drying epoxy products, polyurethane and polycycloxane finishes, and zinc-rich systems. These products are designed to meet rigorous regulatory specifications, especially in sectors such as hydrocarbons, energy, and civil construction.
Guaranteed durability: up to 25 years of protection
One of the most outstanding aspects during the interview was the durability of the systems offered by PPG. Leydis explained that the minimum life expectancy of our products is 5 years, and in highly demanding projects they can reach up to 25 years of warranty.
That is precisely the case of Line 3 of the Panama Metro, a flagship project in which PPG is supplying a three-layer coating system designed to protect the structure over the long term. This solution not only ensures structural integrity against corrosion, but also reduces maintenance costs and extends the life cycle of the infrastructure.
Sustainability applied to coatings
In a context where environmental standards are increasingly demanding, PPG has developed water-based coatings that comply with international standards such as LEED. These products reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC), minimize odors in enclosed environments and ensure a smaller environmental footprint without sacrificing performance.
Escobar commented that the company's portfolio includes solutions for projects with ecological requirements as well as for high performance industries, such as hydrocarbons.

Technology and innovation at the service of the industry
The company is not only a leader in technical formulations, but also in process automation. The plants that supply Panama, located in Colombia, the United States and several European countries, operate with robotic systems for packaging, filling and quality control.
When asked about the use of nanotechnology and artificial intelligence, Escobar commented that in Panama they are in the initial study phase with the aim of increasing yield and precision in the field.
Coatings that accompany Panama's development
The interview with Leydis Escobar made it clear that industrial coatings are a critical factor in ensuring safety, efficiency and sustainability, from Metro Line 3 to industrial facilities in corrosive environments, PPG is present with solutions adapted to each context.
In a country like Panama, where urban expansion and transportation projects are advancing strongly, having technical suppliers capable of delivering long-term performance is key, and in this field, PPG demonstrates why it continues to be an international benchmark.
