At the XPENG AI Day event held at South China University of Technology , XPENG AEROHT presented the first manned flight of its innovative Land Aircraft Carrier and announced the conceptual design of its X5 tiltrotor eVTOL aircraft .
XPENG Land Aircraft Carrier Tests
The Land Aircraft Carrier is a modular flying vehicle composed of a ground module, called the Mothership , and an air module with six rotors. The Mothership is equipped with 6×6 all-wheel drive and rear steering, while housing the air module, allowing automatic assembly and disassembly with just one click. It was designed for off-road applications, and this system allows for manually controlled or fully autonomous flight.

The aircraft is constructed from lightweight carbon fiber and offers a 270° panoramic cockpit for optimal visibility. In addition, XPENG has developed a single-lever control system, making it easy to operate even for inexperienced users. XPENG AEROHT founder Zhao Deli has begun manned flight testing to ensure the vehicle’s performance and safety.
The company has implemented a full redundancy system , with backup in all essential components, including propulsion , flight control and electrical systems . This increases safety, in case of failure of the primary system, the secondary system guarantees safe operation. Safety tests have shown that the aircraft can remain stable even if two rotors fail simultaneously, complying with civil safety standards.
The X5 eVTOL: The conceptual evolution of air transport
It has also unveiled the concept of the X5 eVTOL , an aircraft designed for high-speed, long-range flight. This vehicle uses a tilting rotor system that tilts to allow for vertical takeoffs and fast cruises, reaching a maximum speed of 360 km/h and a range of 500 kilometers. The X5 plans to change intercity travel, offering an efficient and high-tech solution for air mobility.

Since 2013, XPENG AEROHT has been working on integrating air mobility into cities. The company has received government support for the development of general aviation infrastructure, which will facilitate the creation of a safe and intelligent aviation ecosystem. The “Land Aircraft Carrier” will make its world debut at the China International Air Show on November 12, with pre-sales starting in December.
